Scenes from a memory - Who killed Victoria Page?
Earlyer this week i wrote a text about one of the greatest releases this millenium; "metropolis pt2 - scenes from a memory" of Dream Theater. This is, as far as I can see, one of the best conseptalbums ever to be released. And its not only a strong conseptalbum, but the music is inexplainably, irreasonably, extremely good. This is, in my view, THE strongest albums that year, and among the five gretest the last twenty year period.
The CD tells the story of Victoria Page, being murdered in 1928 by her boyfriend, Nicholas. At least, this is what Nicholas thinks happened, when he's dreaming of it 72 years later, in 2000, in another lifetime. After several nights whith terrifying dreams, he decides to see a psyciatrist, and find out what really happened that night in 1928. It comes clear that Victoria, in addition to Nicholas, had an affair whith his brother. Can this be the reason why Nicholas killed Victoria and shot himself the next moment?
In addition to this question, theres another one tearing his soul: Why would he kill the girl he loved more than everything else in the world? As the psyciatrist digs deeper, and deeper into Nicholas' dark mind, it becomes clearer, and clearer that Nicholas' brother is somehow connected to the murder, one way ore another... After talking to the psyciatrist for some time, Nicholas gets the feeling that he've known him all his life. Does he know more than he want to share, or is it just some crasy talk Nicholas' mind have made up?
To not ruin the grand finale, I'll stop here. The CD can be found as a niceprice in most CDstores, and theres also a DVD out there whith some unique live stuffs and short filmclips of Nicholas and Victoria. You might want to hear "metropolis pt1 - the miracle and the sleeper" on "images and words" first, but its not a necessarity. Remember not to plan anything for the listening hour, not to spoil the touching story!
Thats about it...
